If you are missing a few teeth, or if you need to have your teeth removed for whatever reason, it can have a terribly negative impact on the quality of your life overall. Not only does it affect your ability to chew food and speak clearly, but it can also be devastating to your self-esteem and self-confidence. Fortunately, modern dental technology has perfected partial and complete dentures. These advanced dental appliances are now more comfortable and securely fitting than ever before. Partial and complete dentures can improve your life in many different ways, which is why Dr. Reddy is so pleased to provide them to our patients from our Hutto, TX, office.
The Difference Between Partial and Complete Dentures
Just as the names would indicate, a partial denture is intended for people who are missing only a few teeth, and a complete set of dentures is designed for people who have no teeth at all and/or patients who need to have their teeth removed. Both partial and complete dentures can be removed by the patient.
Conventional and Immediate Dentures
In addition to the two types of dentures – partial and complete – there are two other denture distinctions that you should be aware of: conventional and immediate. People who have already lost their teeth can be fitted with conventional dentures. These appliances are custom-made to fit snugly onto gum tissue that is already completely healed. Patients that need to have their teeth removed have another option: immediate dentures. These appliances are provided to the patient immediately after the teeth are removed, meaning that there is no waiting time involved for the patient after the extractions. Although many people choose immediate dentures for obvious reasons, they do have to be relined as the gum tissue begins to heal. Dr. Reddy can provide more information about conventional and immediate dentures and help you decide which is best for you.
