It’s pretty safe to say that all of us would like to keep our natural teeth for as long as possible. Dentists feel that way too. But in some situations, tooth extractions are necessary. If the thought of having a tooth pulled makes you cringe, relax! Tooth extractions are usually very simple procedures that can be done relatively quickly here in our Hutto, TX, office.
Important Information about Tooth Extractions
There are two types of tooth extractions that Dr. Reddy performs depending on the individual patient’s situation. Those two types are simple extractions and surgical extractions. Here are the differences between those two procedures:
- Simple Extraction – Dr. Reddy typically performs a simple extraction if the affected tooth has already erupted through the surface of your gum tissue. A simple extraction is a relatively straightforward, non-invasive procedure.
- Surgical Extraction – Dr. Reddy usually performs a surgical extraction if the affected tooth has not yet erupted through the surface of the gum (as is the case with an impacted wisdom tooth, for example). A surgical extraction requires Dr. Reddy making a small incision in the gum tissue in order to reach the affected tooth and remove it.
Although the thought of a tooth extraction may be frightening, there’s no reason to feel that way. Modern dental technology allows Dr. Reddy and other dentists to perform this procedure with very little – if any – discomfort on the part of the patient. However, it is very important that you pay close attention to the follow-up instructions that you’ll be provided after the procedure. Following those instructions to the letter will ensure that you recover quickly afterwards at home.
